The Cub is a compact post and beam hybrid cabin designed to maximize usability within a modest footprint. At 480 sq. ft. on the main level, supplemented by two loft spaces, it delivers functional living capacity without increasing the building footprint. The structure combines timber framing with conventional building methods, allowing for cost control while maintaining exposed timber character where it matters most. Its proportions are intentionally simple, making it adaptable to a wide range of sites—from recreational properties to guest accommodations or rental units. The covered entry and extended rooflines provide practical weather protection while reinforcing the architectural presence. Interior layouts can be configured to prioritize sleeping capacity, living space, or storage depending on use. Prefabrication ensures consistent joinery, efficient installation, and reduced on-site variability.

The hybrid system balances structural expression with practical budget considerations, concentrating timber elements where they have the most visual and structural impact. Loft spaces are used to expand usable area without increasing foundation or roof costs. The overall intent is to provide a scalable, repeatable structure that performs well across both personal and developer-driven projects.
What else do I need in place for you to install this on my property?
A foundation needs to be ready. One option for this is a concrete pad. Or you can install concrete piles, or screw piles to place the beams in. If you want us to install this then request a quote.

The package is a post-and-beam frame only — the customer must supply a builder; complete construction services are available separately through Mountain Lion Timbercraft.
